U.S. Service Academy Virtual Information Event -- April 21
Families of students interested in attending a United States Service Academy are invited to a free virtual information event hosted by U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
Representatives from the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, and U.S. Army ROTC will be on hand to discuss what each academy offers, their admissions processes, and how the Congressional nomination process works.

Harford County Public Schools is partnering with the Office on Mental Health, Cook Center for Human Connection, and University of Maryland Medical System to host Your Mind Matters: A Family Wellness Night on Friday, May 8, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.
This free community event will feature a variety of family-friendly activities including crafts, a bounce house, rock climbing, a mechanical bull, and more. The event is rain or shine.

Harford County Public Schools is joining communities across the country in celebrating the Month of the Military Child. On Friday, April 17, we ask students, staff, and families to wear purple for Purple Up Day to honor the military-connected students in our schools and the families who serve our country.


Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in the inaugural Mastering IEP Community Event last night at Joppatowne High School. It was a great event that highlighted the strengths of our students and community members, and we look forward to our continued partnership with families in the future.

HCPS Educators Honored at NMTC Visionary Awards
Three Harford County Public Schools educators were recently recognized at the 2026 Northeastern Maryland Technology Council Visionary Awards. Melissa Dethlefson, Career Coaching Coordinator; Shomari Zachary, P-TECH Coordinator; and Tim Pistel, Career Navigator, were all honored in the Mentor category for going above and beyond to inspire students and create meaningful STEM career experiences. Congratulations to all three on this well-deserved recognition!

Joppatowne High School teacher and HCPS Teacher of the Year, Erica Richardson, was honored as Maryland's recipient of the 2026 NEA Foundation Travelers Award for Teaching Excellence at the Salute to Excellence in Education Gala in Washington, D.C. on February 13, 2026. Well deserved, Ms. Richardson!
