As a result of action taken during a Board of Education of Harford County Closed Session meeting held on January 7, 2026, Dr. Dyann R. Mack has been appointed Interim Superintendent of Harford County Public Schools (HCPS), effective January 8, 2026.  

  

Dr. Mack has nearly 30 years of experience in HCPS and is a proud graduate of Joppatowne High School. In her most recent role as Deputy Superintendent for Academics, she provided systemwide leadership in curriculum, instruction, professional learning, and student support services.

Dr. Mack previously served HCPS as Executive Director and Director of Elementary School Instruction and Performance, providing leadership and support for 34 elementary schools serving more than 35,000 students. Her work included strengthening instructional systems, supporting systemic improvements such as expanding access to high quality prekindergarten, and providing direct oversight to elementary schools, many of which demonstrated measurable gains in student achievement.  

  

Her career in HCPS began as a classroom teacher at Prospect Mill Elementary School, followed by roles as Achievement Gap Coordinator, Assistant Principal, and Principal, where she championed school safety and climate initiatives, led data-driven school improvement, supported the development of incredible teachers and leaders, developed school-based special education programs, and strengthened family and community partnerships.  

  

Dr. Mack holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Walden University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Loyola College, and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Lincoln University. She is a graduate of the Public Schools Superintendents Association of Maryland Aspiring Superintendent Cohort and holds multiple state and national leadership and coaching certifications.
